Two years ago, the wacked-out video for “Gangnam Style” by a then-unknown -- at least in the U.S. -- South Korean rapper named Psy went viral, ultimately amassing over two billion views on YouTube. Ladies and gentlemen, we may now have the next heir to the throne.
The video, the title of which translates into English as “Chick Chick,” is by female Chinese pop star Wang Rong. Since it was first posted on YouTube October 22, it’s already scored over five million views, and climbing fast. And like “Gangnam Style,” it’s nearly indescribable.
Mostly, the "Chick Chick" video is Ms. Rong herself, accompanied by four female back-up dancers, all dressed in white tutus designed to make them look, more or less, like chickens, and clucking like chickens during the chorus. There are also some male back-up dancers wearing shorts and rubber animal masks, and lots of animated barnyard animals dancing around.
So, what’s it’s about? When you run the Chinese description through Google translate, this is what you get, which must be read in all its glory to be fully appreciated:
“Wang Rong latest Divine Comedy "Chick Chick" MV premiere! In the creation of this song, the song of the concert, there is a very daring stunt, lyrics melody part from start to finish no more than five words, chickens, hens, rooster, cuckoo day. Singing subversive uses a variety of sounds were imitating animals, listening to really feel the joy when the farm and see the animals in the song and dance group. This highly experimental strange singing to tell you: The Divine Comedy than you ever imagined! Unprecedented feeling, will subvert your knowledge of popular songs, this song will tell you: The Divine Comedy in the end how God!”
