An earthquake with a magnitude 6.1 has been recorded the early hours this morning (Sat. 21/5/16) on the outskirts of Alice Springs.
According to Geoscience Australia the quake struck at 4.14am, 125km west of Uluru at a depth of 10kms. 460 kms west-southwest of Alice Springs. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
The strongest recorded quake to hit Australia occured in Tennant Creek in January 1988. It was a 6.6 magnitude earthquake.
