Ali & I were telling you about Mel Gibson visiting Alice Springs last weekend. We have just discovered from our spies that he has been linked to a proposal to build a $1 million 20-metre tall crucifix with LED-lights on top of a remote mountain in the Northern Territory to ‘usher in the second coming of Jesus’.

Mel Gibson was in the Alice with his girlfriend for a three day tour, west of town, where he caught up with landscape photographer and fellow Christian, Ken Duncan. It's reported that Mel Gibson donated various signed items from his illustrious career towards fund raising efforts that may go towards the erection of the crucifix which will be placed on Memory Mountain, 230 kilometres west of Alice Springs.

Photographer Ken Duncan has so far raised almost $340,000 of the $920,000 he needs to build the structure.

According to the website, an anonymous Australian donor has already contributed more than $100,000.
