Holiday-goers and locals in the Northern Territory could go home $1 million richer just by going fishing.
Tourism NT has launched an Australian first fishing campaign, promising cash prizes to tourists who fish in the Top End.
The Million Dollar Fish competition will see 75 barramundis tagged and released into different fishing location across the Northern Territory.
Of the group of fish, only one will carry the $1 million prize tag, while the remaining 75 will win anglers $10,000 apiece.
Chief Minister Adam Giles said “The Northern Territory has some of the best fishing in the world and the chance to catch the iconic Territory barramundi is one of fishing’s greatest challenges.”
“About 40,000 interstate visitors come to the Top End for fishing every year but we want to encourage even more people to stay, play and fish.”
Visitors must register for the competition by August 31 or risk not being eligible for the prize money should they catch one of the tagged fish.
