Premier NT community event the Barunga Festival has announced that its 29th-anniversary celebrations this June will be capped off with the one-off reformation of the legendary Saltwater Band.
Though they have been largely inactive in recent memory, the Elcho Island collective notched up more than 30,000 album sales - and a handful of ARIA nominations - during their career, and are perhaps best known for being Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu's first project after leaving renowned indigenous outfit Yothu Yindi.
Gurrumul will be joined by the full original line-up of the band for the show, including lead vocalist Manuel Dhurrkay and ensemble members Joshua Dhurrkay, Andrew Yunupingu, Barra'kuwuy Yunupingu, Jonathon Yunupingu, Adrian Garrawitja and Lloyd Garrawitja.
Further new additions to the festival's line-up include Alice Springs' Tjintu Desert Band, who, alongside former John Butler Trio drummer Nicky Bomba with his Bustamento quartet, are set to help round the festival out in style.
Manuel Dhurrkay will also appear on the program for the festival's APRA music tent, with Darwinians Ali Mills and Sietta, and Nabarlek's Terrah Guymala. These performances are designed to provide an intimate experience among the meta-excitement of the festival atmosphere.
The festival boasts several activities and community programs this year, including walking tours, the Barunga Fashion Parade, a showing from acclaimed youth circus the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, performances from the Red Flag and Groote Eylandt Dancers, and an special performance from the Kormilda School Band following the event's opening ceremony. In addition, locals have a chance to showcase their creative and remixing talents in the Barunga Beats! program, the results of which will be played during a Kids Remix Dance Party on the Friday night.
The annual camping celebration of sport, music and culture is the country's largest Indigenous community festival, and will be held from June 6-9 in Barunga.

As you probably already expected, the duo are absolutely glowing and beaming with love after saying "I do" at the Forte di Belvedere in front of their nearest and dearest.
In the photo above, the just married couple is walking down the aisle, having just said their "I do's." Spot cutie pie North watching her smiling parents from her aisle, where she's safely ensconced in the arms of grandma Kris Jenner!
The shots also give us our first full glimpse of Kim's wedding dress!
Kim stunned (per usual) in a white, Givenchy Haute Couture lace gown and a long silk veil during the ceremony, while Kanye was fitted in a custom Givenchy tuxedo.
Kim and Kanye used traditional vows during the ceremony and their good friend, a pastor from Miami, officiated the union.
E! News also obtained a picture from the bride's final dress fitting at the Givenchy atelier in Paris with Riccardo Tisci.
After the nuptials, the pair and their loved ones partied at the reception, which included a four-course meal and 7-tiered wedding cake. Kim changed into a short, cream-colored, custom Balmain dress and was also regaled by an epic 20-minute speech from her new husband.
Kris and Bruce Jenner also gave speeches at the reception, and Bruiser reportedly took the more emotional route, shedding some tears while talking about the newlyweds. Aww! Friends like John Legend, who serenaded the lovebirds with "All of Me" for their first dance, also toasted the happy couple.
Mix 1049 is happy to announce Passenger will tour Australia and New Zealand in January 2015 with a Darwin date thrown into the mix.
Michael Rosenberg adopted his stage name Passenger after his band Passenger disbanded in 2009. As a solo artist Passenger has sold over 6.55 million singles including his biggest hit ‘Let Her Go’ which reached number one in 21 countries. Passenger has also sold over 1.2 million albums.
Passenger’s fifth studio album ‘Whispers’ will be released in June. The first single was ‘Hearts On Fire’.

From way up in the stands at the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium, a fan tossed their plane and it soared towards the pitch — the crowd noise building as it edged its way towards the players.

Midnight Oil are “excited” about the possibility of a reunion tour once frontman Peter Garrett has finished writing his memoirs.
The band – who wrote some of Australia’s most iconic rock songs – disbanded in 2002 so that Garrett could concentrate on his political career, reforming only for events such as the Sound Relief charity concerts.
With Garrett now keeping a low profile post-politics, the band’s drummer Rob Hirst has said of a comeback tour, “Yeah, yeah, we might, yeah.”
“Pete’s writing his memoirs, and that will take a while, so we’ll see how he feels after that. [The prospect] makes me excited and terrified at the same time!
Garrett resigned from his ministerial portfolio July 2013 when he backed then Prime Minister Julia Gillard in a Labor leadership spill that was won by Kevin Rudd. He did not seek re-election, fuelling reformation rumours. The band’s manager Gary Morris officially left his post shortly after, claiming that it was a move to highlight the fact that no reformation was on the cards.
On the upcoming Midnight Oil exhibition, set to open 20 June at Manly’s Art Gallery & Museum in Sydney, Hirst said, “About three years ago I started pulling stuff out of my attic and started to realise that I was even more of a hoarder than I thought I was, and in there were all these posters dating back to when the band was first called Farm – there were posters and badges and lyrics and stickers and god knows what.
“So I was walking past Manly Art Gallery and just on a whim I went in and spoke to them about the exhibition, and they said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to do it!’ so I was, like, ‘Oh fuck, we’ve got to get all this stuff together!’ It’s grown over the last two years, and the creator down there – one Ross Heathcote – has been fantastic, because he knows as much about music as museums.
“So between the two of us we’ve been able to pull in all of this stuff including the Exxon banner [featured in new DVD Black Rain Falls – see clip below of ‘Instant Karma’] and an amazing amount of stage clobber and footage that Bonesy [bassist Bones Hillman] shot of the band backstage that has never been shown, and a new documentary that Rob Hambling made about the making of Ten-To-One [1982 album 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1], and I’ve even tried to recreate what it was like in 1979 at the Royal Antler Hotel with sticky carpet and sharp elbows!”

We’re used to Lara Bingle’s glamorous — and sometimes daring — social media pictures, but what has she posted online now?
It seems the 26-year-old got a little excited about the sun before heading away on holiday with boyfriend Sam Worthington.
The blonde beauty uploaded this latest fun pic showing her face covered in sunscreen with the caption “slip, slop, slap,” while giving an air kiss.
The messy, pouty shot is a far step from her more stylised pics — and it has got some of her web followers in a bit of comic frenzy at the potential for misinterpretation.
“Oh dear. Does she not stop, pause, think. I guess this is another tear down pic for her.” one of her Instagram followers said.
Another fan simply wrote “HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA ARE YOU SERIOUS!?.”
It’s believed Bingle and Worthington are on their was to meet her best friend Vicky Lee for a bit of R and R, in an undisclosed location.

A track combining 'Kiss You' and the Australian's breakthrough hit 'She Looks So Perfect' appeared on YouTube recently.
It has been received well by fans and has seemingly satisfied the hunger of those who want to hear the two groups collaborate.
The bands meanwhile are currently taking a couple of days off from their Where We Are European tour before resuming it in Sweden on June 13.
Support act 5 Seconds of Summer haven't quite put their feet up just yet, with the quartet instead heading into the studio to record music.
Mix 1049 will cover all the action of the Skycity Triple Crown from Thursday to Sunday at Hidden Valley. Greg & Ilaria will be broadcasting LIVE at the track between 9am – Noon on Saturday & Sunday.
Here’s Ten things you should know about this weekend.
1. Impressively, 10 different drivers have claimed victories in the first 16 races of this year's V8 Supercars Championship.
Seven different teams have won races while four of the five manufacturers on the grid have collected victories. Nissan is the only one yet to claim victory or a podium finish.
Red Bull Racing Australia has won more races than any other team this year - six - though has collected just one win from the last 10 races.
2. Red Bull Racing Australia's Craig Lowndes will celebrate a milestone at Hidden Valley - his 40th birthday. The three-time V8 Supercar champion will turn 40 on Saturday June 21.
He is the third oldest driver on the 2014 grid behind Russell Ingall (50) and Jason Bright (41).
The average age of the grid at Hidden Valley is 31.2.
Lowndes has won six races in Darwin - including the last race on the Sunday last year - though has not taken a pole in the 'Top End' since 2000.
He sits second in the championship and 101 points behind leader Mark Winterbottom heading to Hidden Valley.
3. The SKYCITY Triple Crown award still remains unclaimed given no driver in the event's history has been able to win all three races and clean sweep a Hidden Valley weekend.
Drivers have been able to claim two out of three race wins in the past (Russell Ingall in 1998 and 1999, Mark Skaife in 2002, Marcos Ambrose in 2003, Todd Kelly in 2005 and Craig Lowndes in 2007) but no one has achieved the treble.
From 2009 to 2012 - when there were two races per Darwin event rather than three - the Triple Crown was decided on the basis of a driver qualifying fastest in the Top 10 Shootout and winning both races. No driver was able to achieve this in those years.
4. Championship leader Mark Winterbottom has one of the strongest records at Hidden Valley of the current V8 Supercars Championship field.
The Pepsi Max Ford driver has qualified in the top five for 11 of the last 12 races in Darwin and finished on the podium nine times in his last 12 race starts.
His Ford Performance Racing squad should also feel confident given their pilots have had the top point scoring driver at the last three events (Winterbottom at Winton and Pukekohe and Chaz Mostert at Barbagallo).
5. Only three drivers, Russell Ingall, Craig Lowndes and Garth Tander, have competed in each and every V8 Supercars Championship event at Hidden Valley since the first back in 1998.
However, only Tander has started every one of the 44 races the circuit has hosted given Lowndes and Ingall have both failed to start two races each due to various mechanical and electrical problems.
Tander has an incredibly consistent record in Darwin and has not failed to finish a Hidden Valley race since 2001 - a streak of 34 consecutive race finishes.
6. Scott McLaughlin and Jamie Whincup jointly lead the race for the ARMOR ALL Pole Position Award with four pole positions each so far this season.
The Volvo pilot - who celebrated his 21st birthday recently - and the Red Bull Holden driver have both also qualified on the front row seven times each.
McLaughlin, however, has qualified in the top five (13) and top 10 (15) more times than any other driver this year.
Seven different drivers have claimed ARMOR ALL Pole Positions so far this year from 16 races.
7. The SKYCITY Triple Crown will feature the first mixed tyre format of the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship.
Each car will have 12 hard and eight soft Dunlop tyres to use, though the soft tyres will only be permitted to be used on Sunday. Whether teams also choose to spend some time running on hard tyres on Sunday is their decision.
Saturday's two 10-minute qualifying sessions and pair of 100-kilometre sprint races will be run solely on hard tyres.
8. Jack Daniel's Racing's Todd Kelly will start his 193rd ATCC/V8 Supercars Championship event at Hidden Valley, moving him past Steven Johnson and Tony Longhurst for 11th on the all-time list.
His brother Rick will start his 173rd ATCC/V8SC event, moving past Jason Bargwanna to claim 15th on the all-time list.
Both brothers have won in Darwin before with Todd claiming overall victory in 2004 and 2005 and Rick winning a race in 2004 and then again in 2011.
9. Ford drivers have dominated qualifying in Darwin in recent years, claiming eight of the last nine pole positions at Hidden Valley from 2010 onwards.
The only Holden driver to claim pole position in that time is James Courtney (Sunday Race 1 last year) for the Holden Racing Team.
Amazingly, Red Bull Racing Australia/Triple Eight Race Engineering has never claimed a pole position in its 10 previous visits to the venue and Jamie Whincup also remains without a pole position in Darwin.
10. Only two drivers - Nick Percat and Robert Dahlgren - are making their first V8 Supercars Championship appearance at Hidden Valley.
While the Swedish Volvo driver is completely new to the Darwin circuit, Percat has a successful history there in the junior categories and is actually undefeated in three previous visits.
He won all four Aussie Racing Car races in 2006 and clean swept all three races in both 2008 and 2009 in the Australian Formula Ford Championship.
A couple of weeks ago she was eliminated from Masterchef but Greg & Ilaria welcomed Rachael Ciesiolka back to her hometown and set her one more challange.
Rachael was given a box full of ingredients by Greg & Ilaria, she was then sent to the Mix 1049 Kitchen and 40 mins later she returned with Crab & Prawn Wontons in Seafood Bisque. It was YUMMY!!!

Jeremy Meeks, the California felon whose hot mugshot caused the Internet to go into heat last week, is married, and his wife does not appreciate all the attention her husband is getting.
Internet fans and groupies surprisingly didn't show up to Meek's arraignment Friday afternoon, but when family and friends arrived they were very upset. “It’s ridiculous,” a friend tells CBS. “People are making jokes when this is not funny at all.”
Meeks' wife did not attend the arraignment. “I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t see her at all in the cameras.” said another friend. “She’s furious. Her man is in there and people are taking it as a joke, thinking it’s funny talking about his looks, saying all kinds of crazy things.” The father of two's public defender said he was shocked at the worldwide media attention for his client, but said, “It’s better than the attention my clients usually get.
According to TMZ there are few agencies interested in Meeks edgy and sexy style -- apparently "gangster models" are hot right now. Once a free man they see him working with high-end fashion houses like Versace and Armani, with the possibility of Meeks raking in $15,000-to-$30,000.
Meeks was arrested with four other men last Wednesday (June 18th) during a gang sweep. He's being held on $900,000 bail with no prospect of getting out soon.
